Cub Foods Shopping 101

Since Cub Foods is the most popular grocery store chain in Minnesota, I thought it might helpful to share with you some of the things I've learned shopping at Cub Foods (in no particular order).

  1. If possible shop early, the bakery and meat departments reduce various items and you can snag them for 50% off.
  2. The meat department attaches green stickers labeled "price cut" on the meat they need to sell ASAP.
  3. Every few weeks, Cub releases a new coupon book that is available in store only at the customer service desk (pick up several since they are good for several weeks).
  4. Shop the "discounted item" carts. I can't tell you how many good deals I've found rummaging through these carts or bins and using a coupon to get a really great bargain. I've not found any rhyme or reason to when they add more items, they just always seem to be there at various times of the week/day.
  5. Cub offers a lot of 10/$10 deals, but that does NOT mean you have to purchase 10, you may buy just one and get it for $1.00.
  6. The Cub Food stores within the cities (corporate owned) accept expired manufacturer coupons up to 3 months past expiration date.
  7. Cub DOES accept Internet printed coupons.
  8. Cub does not double or triple any coupon.
  9. You may stack a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon -- this is when you get some crazy savings!!
  10. Check your store coupons carefully, sometimes Cub requires an additional $25.00 purchase to get the coupon price.
  11. Don't throw away all the "extra" receipt type papers you get after checking out -- often these are Catalinas (coupons), which by the way don't have to be used at Cub they can be used anywhere that particular item is sold.
  12. What can you add.....? Just send me a comment!

How do you know what items Catalinas are offered on? I never see anything about these in the adds.

Hi Jen,

I was able to use internet printed coupons at Cub West in St. Cloud the other night (I did call ahead to make sure they would). Thank you for all your other great tips, I'll have to check them out!

I really don't know how they figure these things -- they just seem to print based on the items you purchased. For instance, one time I bought a bunch of Lunchables at Coborns and I got a Catalina (coupon) back for Lunchables. Sometimes by reading various forums, I am tipped off to what other people are buying to get them. Sorry, I know that's not the greatest help!

I changed the post to highlight that Cub Foods DOES accept internet coupons. When I was reading through the post last night, I did the same thing reading it has they do not accept them -- I should have just changed it then. I have been very successful using IP's at Cub! Thanks for pointing that out, so hopefully now it reads clearer.

My husband used to work at Cub West in St Cloud. Monday Morning they discounted meat that didn't sell over the weekend. It has to sell within so many days of being cut and packaged. Every Monday there would be the employees getting great deals.
